The theme for this year's festival is steam punk and circus- goes pretty well together don't you think?
As I am in Brisbane on an artist residency and Nic is in Christchurch planning and trialling designs we are using this blog to trade research, images, sketches, technical info and ideas as we work collaboratively to (hopefully) create dramatic fire sculptures and sets in theme with the festival to enhance the stage some of the worlds best fire performers.
Nicholas Lealand has been creating fire sculptures on Stromboli for a good 5 years now, where he has created flaming sculptures from copper to grace the stage as well as bringing his own dramatic stage presence to the festival through his impressive contact staffing and fire whip.
This will be my second year on Stromboli and I am very excited to be returning to this magical island and Gusti's amazing hospitality and vision to help create what is shaping up to be a fantastic festival.
So, you can expect to see thoughts, drawings and images a flying as we throw ideas at each other on this blog- enjoy- I know we will!
